About Frédéric

Frédéric (Fred) started his career in aviation in 1990 working at Brussels airport for an American carrier.

After experiencing the first Gulf war crisis in 1991, he was recruited by EUROCONTROL to start his training as Air Traffic Controller for the EUROCONTROL Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre.
For the last 30 years, he is an active Air Traffic Controller holding enroute civil and military radar ratings in the Hannover sectors of the Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC). He has occupied several positions in the OPS environment for training and system developments.

As President of the Staff Committee at MUAC and vice-President of the Trade Union EUROCONTROL Maastricht, he was involved since 1998 in all EUROCONTROL Reforms and various high-level committees until 2018. He also followed the various evolutions of the Single European Sky since the initial discussions. He was involved in the SESAR definition phase in the Human Factors package as international staff representative and held the position of Functional Airspace Blocks (FAB) coordinator for IFATCA.

Since April 2020, as Executive Vice President for Europe, he oversees the Federation’s activities and involvement in the various groups and bodies in the European region (EUR). As such, he also acts as the focal point for the representatives of 44 European countries. He is also still member of EGATS (EUROCONTROL Guild of Air Traffic Services) Executive Board.

He has a considerable network in Europe having represented ATCEUC at international meetings for more than 15 years and as member of the EGATS delegation, he has attended all but one IFATCA Annual Conference and the European Regional Meetings since 2008.
Fred brings a wealth of experience in ATC, complex international issues and in leading, and managing groups of multi-cultural professionals to the Executive Board.

Fred speaks 4 languages, is married and proud father of three children. He shares his family time between Belgium and Greece.
