Umi Muthiah Syahirah is an Air Traffic Controller from Indonesia, having started her career in February 2015, and currently serves as the IFATCA Regional Secretariat for Southeast and West Asia. She began her operational experience in Tower and non-radar Approach control, before transitioning to ACC Surveillance operations in early 2019.

With a strong operational background, she is actively engaged in regional and international aviation initiatives, contributing to the advancement of air traffic management and safety.

In her role within the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA), she supports coordination and communication among Member Associations across Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Iran, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan. She works to strengthen collaboration, encourage participation in IFATCA activities, and promote the Federation’s mission of enhancing aviation safety and professionalism worldwide.

Renz Bulseco

Regional Chair for Training

Renz Bulseco is a rated tower, non-radar, and radar surveillance approach controller based in Manila, Philippines. He has been with the service since 2013. He serves as the Public Relations (PR) Committee Chair for the Philippine Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (PATCA). In operations, he is the facility’s Lead Safety Officer, Shift Supervisor, and trainer for the surveillance approach.

He is also active with some of IFATCA’s committees. He is the current Chair of the Training Task Force and the Regional Training Lead for the Asia Pacific Region. He is one of the communications coordinators for the Asia Pacific Region, handling the social media accounts, monthly circulars, and The Controller magazine of IFATCA. Lastly, he serves as an elected member of the Technical & Operational Committee (TOC).

He aims to leverage his leadership skills to open new horizons in air traffic control by aligning with the latest technologies, innovations, and safety management practices. This would empower all generations of air traffic controllers to adapt to the profession’s constantly evolving demands.

Alex Leung

REGIONAL CHAIR FOR OPERATIONS

Alex Leung is a highly experienced Air Traffic Controller based in Hong Kong with a career spanning nearly two decades in aviation operations and strategic planning. Rated in Aerodrome, Terminal Surveillance, and Approach Surveillance, Alex currently serves as an Air Traffic Controller and ATC Supervisor for the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD), overseeing complex operations at Hong Kong International Airport.

Beyond frontline control, Alex holds significant leadership roles, notably serving as the Vice President (Technical and Professional) of the Hong Kong Air Traffic Control Association and member of the IFATCA Technical Operations Committee. In these capacities, Alex leads technical exchanges and symposia, fostering collaboration among industry stakeholders. Internationally, Alex represents HKCAD and IFATCA Asia Pacific Region at ICAO and CANSO workgroups, contributing to the development of Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) and global aviation standard.

With additional expertise in Incident Investigation, Search and Rescue, and as an ATC Examiner and Instructor, Alex combines high-level operational command with a commitment to professional development and international aviation policy. 

Marnie Pomeroy

Regional Chair for Safety

Marnie qualified as and air traffic controller in New Zealand in 1991.  She holds aerodrome, procedural approach and area surveillance ratings, and is currently the deputy team leader of Auckland Oceanic and operating as an area surveillance controller and an Oceanic controller training and check instructor.

As deputy team leader, she is responsible for 27 MoUs and LOAs as well as Until Standards, quality assurance and procedure development.

For the New Zealand Association, she is the technical representative on their Air Traffic Control council and a trained PROSTAN volunteer. Marnie is passionate about her profession and colleagues and has held training recovery and specialist roles as well as representing our membership on the New Zealand Airline Pilots Technical sub committee where we are SME for or regulator and many national and international stakeholders.

She now puts all of her experience together to assist IFATCA as the Asia Pacific Safety Chair.  Under the  leadership of Cheryl and working with her very experienced colleagues, Marnie is committed to assist all member associations within the Asia Pacific region and continues to promote safety in all aspects of our profession.
