Since the recent outbreak of Ebola virus in Uganda, the Executive Board (EB) has been closely monitoring the situation and in close coordination with the Organising Committee (OC) of our Member Association (MA) in Uganda, as communicated in the IFATCA Newsletter of June 2026.

After careful consideration of the travel restrictions and quarantine measures currently imposed by several States, the potential for a resurgence of Ebola cases in the coming months, and the uncertainty surrounding the organisation of an event of such magnitude in Uganda in April next year, the EB has concluded that relocating the IFATCA Annual Conference 2027 is the most prudent course of action. This decision has been taken in the best interests of both the host MA and all IFATCA MAs.

The EB deeply regrets having to make this decision and wishes to stress that it was not taken lightly. We fully recognise and sincerely appreciate the considerable time, effort, and dedication invested by the Ugandan OC in preparing for the Conference. However, after weighing all relevant factors, the EB believes that relocation is in the best interest of the Federation as well.

In parallel with this assessment, the EB explored alternative locations for the 2027 Annual Conference. Previous and prospective host candidates were contacted (Chile, Trinidad & Tobago and Türkiye) and invited to submit proposals. After reviewing proposals and venue availability, the EB decided the IFATCA Annual Conference 2027 will be in Türkiye.

The EB extends its sincere and heartfelt gratitude to our Ugandan MA for their unwavering support to the Federation. It remains the EB’s hope that Uganda will host an IFATCA Annual Conference in the near future, once the circumstances allow for a successful event. The EB also wishes to thank Chile and Trinidad & Tobago for considering hosting the next Annual Conference and hopes that they will consider hosting the Annual Conference at a later date.

With only eight months remaining before the Annual Conference, the EB recognises that this change has a significant impact on the Federation, its MAs, and our Ugandan and Turkish MAs. We also understand the workload required by Türkiye to prepare for the Conference in such a limited timeframe. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Turkish MA for stepping forward and supporting the Federation during these exceptional times.

With the decision to relocate the IFATCA Annual Conference 2027, preparations for the event will commence in the coming weeks. As details unfold, MAs will be kept informed as promptly as possible.

In the meantime, we kindly ask for your understanding, patience, and continued support as we navigate the logistical and organisational challenges associated with relocating the Conference from Uganda to Türkiye.
